Updating Storied Mind

by John Folk-Williams Leave a Comment

This is just a short note to let you know that after ten years I have to update Storied Mind. That means a lot of changes: a new theme and background images, removing some features and generally simplifying things on the back end. All that reflects the demands of advancing WordPress technology and the massive shift in the way people read this blog.

Updating Storied Mind

Ten years ago, most people came here on their desktop computers. Mobile phones and tablets were just starting to transform readers’ habits. Now, almost everyone reads these posts on a smartphone, and all those extra bells and whistles I put in place in 2011 get in the way or are altogether irrelevant and invisible to a fast moving smartphone reader.

The problem is that I have to do this on the fly while the blog is still “live.” This is not a commercial blog, and it’s too expensive to hire someone to do it offline and bring it back all at once.

So things will look weird for a while as I’m updating Storied Mind. First, I’ll strip out features that complicate the move to a new theme. Then I’ll activate the new setup, and it will take a few days to get things functioning the way I want them to.

While this is going on, I will not publish any posts, but everything else should be available except for a brief period when the shift is first made. So here’s hoping everything doesn’t crash and burn during this transition.

Thanks for bearing with me and helping make Storied Mind a long-term, if modest success.
